February 22nd, 2009

Amidst the heartbreak and tragedy of Black Saturday - The Victorian Bushfires that claimed the lives of hundreds and destroyed 2000 homes on February 7th 2009, there were some heart lifting stories. One of those stories was Sam the Koala. Sam the Koala has achieved worldwide fame since her rescuer, CFA Fireman David Tree found Sam wondering around the burnt out bushland. You can see the footage of this rescue in an earlier post. Almost a million people have now seen this video of when David Tree brought precious water to a bewildered and confused Sam. A few days after the rescue, Sam is reunited with David at an animal shelter.. and it is here that the plot thickens. Watch to find out more…

One of the few heart warming stories that have come out of the devastation of the worst bushfires in Victorian and Australian history. Black Saturday was an unimaginable event of horror, heartbreak and despair. This website is my contribution to those that lost everything on the fateful day of February 7th, 2009.

Black Saturday - Australia’s Worst Ever Disaster

February 22nd, 2009

By Monday 9am on February 9th it was official. The Victorian Bushfires, later to be named Black Saturday had become Australia’s Worst Ever Natural Disaster in it’s young History. The ferocity of the firestorms were not fully realised, and the extent of the damage not completely known until late Sunday evening and early Monday morning. The death toll, once at 14 did climb dramatically once the Fires had burnt out and local police and fireman were able to access the devastated areas. It was then they discovered the true extent of destruction. The depths of Hell came to Victoria on February 7th, 2009. The current death toll stands at around 211 and almost 2000 homes have been destroyed. Even now fire still continues to burn in some parts of the state, out of control. Black Saturday has surpassed any disaster we as Australian’s have ever seen. This news report confirms it.

Please lend your support to the victims of Black Saturday by donating whatever you can. Follow the links to the Red Cross as provided on the home page of this website and following this blog post. Anything you can contribute is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your support and my deepest sympathies to those who have been victims of Black Saturday. My heart goes out to you all.

Victorian Bushfires - Sams Heartbreak

February 20th, 2009

The Victorian Bushfires have brought countless stories of heartbreak, tragedy, and sadness. There are a few stories out there of survival and some that are even uplifting. Sam’s story is of the former. Sam is one of the many who have lost everything. The Victorian Bushfires destroyed his home and claimed the lives of his beloved family. It is a sad story and as I type this, thinking about the pain he is going through now I am teary eyed. How Sam managed to pull it together to do this interview is hard to imagine. I can only think that he is most certainly numb and feels that this interview was the right thing to do to honour the memories of his beloved 5 year old daughter who he calls “Hairy Bum” and Tina, his wife. Sam I commend you for your resolve and I realise that words can do very little to help ease your pain. Regardless if that mate, my thoughts and prayers are with you and I hope that as hard as it may be, you treasure the grand memories you have of your beautiful girls. My deepest sympathies to you mate.

My deepest sympathies to all who have lost so much as a result of the Victorian Bushfires.

If you are on this page and watching this video. please support Sam and others who have suffered such tragedy by making a small donation to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund as run by the Red Cross. There is a link after this post as well as on the front page of this site. Thank you all for your support.

Victorian Bushfires - The Heroes

February 19th, 2009

The Victorian Bushfires that destroyed the lives of thousands of fellow Aussies on February 7th 2009 were nothing short of horrific. Amongst the chaos and devastation there were 100,000 plus Volunteer Firefighters from the CFA risking their lives and fighting a Firestorm that was to become Australia’s Worst ever Bushfire and Natural Disaster. These men and women of the CFA put their lives on the line each and every year and their bravery and courage in Victoria’s Darkest hour is nothing short of outstanding. Although helpless to stop the ferocity of the Victorian Bushfires, these men and women became the only line of defence and as I write this they continue to fight fires that are still burning in Victoria.

The video below is a tribute to the spirit and courage of the Volunteers of the CFA. As an Australian and Victorian, I thank you for your tireless efforts and bravery.

Please help me pay tribute to the Heroes amongst the insanity of the Victorian Bushfires and watch the following video

Thank you for your support and be sure to donate anything you can to the Red Cross in the link provided after this post and on the front page of this blog.

My thoughts and prayers to all those affected by The Victorian Bushfires.

Just one of the uplifting stories that has come out of the Victorian Bushfire tragedy. Victorian Bushfires - My Video

February 18th, 2009

The Victorian Bushfires that occurred on February 7th and 8th of 2009 were the worst disaster in Australia’s young history. Being from Melbourne and having family members who came close to having to evacuate I felt gutted as I watched the horrific scenes from my current home in Toronto, Canada. The video below is one I made in support and recognition of those who lost their lives, their homes and for the brave men and women that risked their lives to fight what was described as “Hell On Earth”

Bushfires occur regularly in Victoria however this was nothing anyone has ever seen before. Combining the hottest day in Melbourne’s recorded history with 100 km per hour winds brought perfect conditions for an unimaginable firestorm. Sadly, Victoria’s worst fears were realised. The current death toll of the Victorian Bushfires stands is at least 201, with currently 1839 homes destroyed and 7500 people displaced or homeless.

My thoughts and prayers to those affected, and my sincere thank you to all those who have helped these people bring some sanity back into their lives, if that is possible.

If you have yet to donate to the Red Cross to help the victims of these fires you can do so by following the links provided on the home page of this blog. Thank you for your support.
